Thirty-six historical episodes of about two thousand words each, from the programme Franck Ferrand has presented on Europe 1 since 2003. The errata below run to forty-seven entries. He is a superb storyteller with a broadcaster's relationship to precision, and the pattern of his mistakes is remarkably consistent: dates slip by a day or a year, forenames and titles go astray, ages drift upward by one. The scene is almost never wrong. The label on it often is. Two things about our copy , both dealt with and both recorded in full in Source Notes. The file is a genuine Perrin ebook with an intact copyright page, but it had passed through a file-sharing site that left one line of advertising inside chapter 10; that block has been removed, and it was the entire extent of the tampering. Separately, three of Ferrand's own footnotes had to be rescued from the converter, which had discarded them while leaving their markers pointing at nothing. They are back at the foot of the chapters that cite them. One chapter needs handling rather than reading. Chapter 36 is a 1972 murder case in which real people were publicly accused and nobody was ever convicted; what the book asserts and what is established are separated explicitly in the Errata section.…
