The short version
- Browse the catalog and nothing is stored on your device. Not one cookie.
- Cookies appear only when they have to: when you sign in, when you put something in a basket, or when you tell us your cookie preference.
- We run no advertising and no analytics cookies. Those categories exist in the chooser so the choice is real if we ever add anything, and they are switched off.
- You can change your answer at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
1.What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small note a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on the next visit. Some notes are unavoidable, like the one that remembers you are signed in. Others are for the site owner’s benefit rather than yours, and those are the ones you should be asked about first. This library asks first.
2.The register
This is everything the site may set, and the circumstances that cause it.
Strictly necessary
These are set without asking, because the site cannot do the thing you asked for without them. Under GDPR they do not require consent.
| Cookie | Set when | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
cookieadmin_* | You answer the cookie notice | 1 year | Remembers your answer so you are not asked on every page. |
wordpress_logged_in_*wordpress_sec_* | You sign in | Session, or 14 days with Remember Me | Keeps you signed in and proves the session is really yours. |
wp-settings-* | You sign in | 1 year | Remembers your own admin screen preferences. |
fluent_cart_* | You put something in a basket | Session | Keeps the basket attached to you between pages. |
_lscache_vary | You are signed in | Session | Tells the page cache to serve you the signed-in version rather than a stranger’s copy. |
Functional
Off unless you allow them. Nothing on the site currently depends on this category, and it stays here so that if we ever add something like an embedded video or a shared bookshelf, the switch already exists and is already off.
Analytical
Off, and genuinely empty. We run no analytics service on this site. We do not know how many of you read to the end of this sentence, and we have decided we can live with that.
Advertising
Off, and we do not intend to change it. There is no advertising on this site and no advertising network has any presence here.
3.Two things that are not cookies
For completeness, because a cookie policy that hides local storage is not being straight with you. Your browser keeps two small notes for you, both on your device only, and neither is ever transmitted to us:
- flSeen, which remembers that the date stamp has already played this session, so it does not replay on every page.
- flLamp, which remembers whether you turned on After Hours mode.
Clearing your browser data removes both, and the only consequence is that the stamp plays once more and the lamp goes back to following your system setting.
4.Changing your mind
Your answer is not final. Reopen the chooser from the cookie notice at the bottom of any page, and set each category however you like. Turning a category off stops it at once and clears what it set. You can also delete cookies for this site in your browser settings, which achieves the same thing more bluntly.
5.Fonts, and the one request that leaves
The site loads two typefaces from Google Fonts. That is not a cookie, but it is a request to another company’s server, and that company can see the address that made it. We use them because they are the faces the library is set in. We mention it because a cookie policy that only lists cookies is telling you a partial truth.
